Working At Home: Not As Easy As Some Think

When it comes to working at home, most everyone thinks that it is a simple and easy thing to do. Unfortunately, I have found that is not completely true. While yes, you may get to avoid having to wake up early, get dressed for work, and out the door in the cold early morning, there are still some unpleasant sides to working at home.

One thing that makes working home hard is that others tend to forget that you have to work. This leads to un-expected drop-ins and people asking you to do things for them. Ways that this can be combated include not answering knocks at the door, do not answer the phone every single time that it rings, and be firm about letting people know that you have to work.

Another thing that can make working at home a hard thing to do is that it is very easy for you to get distracted with household chores. It can be really easy to get caught up in cleaning the kitchen, doing the laundry, or other things like that. One thing I like to do to avoid wasting my working time with chores is to set aside a bit of time to do things or to use my downtime to quickly complete a short chore. For example, if I need to upload a file at work or I am waiting for something to finish downloading, I will use those 5-10 minutes (depending on the size of the file) to knock off one or two quick chores.
